2012 was an exceptional, ripe vintage in the
finger lakes. An extremely early budbreak, great luck in
escaping a spring frost, and a summer that was warm and with just
enough water make for a vintage like no other in my memory in the
Glacier Ridge Vineyards represents an
exceptional site combined with a studied minimalist approach in the
Vineyard. Weed control is manual, often encouraging non-grape
vegetation to provide competition for the vines and allowing for
insect diversity. Every year we see fruit that is
distinctive, with deep fruit intensity, color and a dose of rich
smokiness. Still a very young wine, long
experience has shown that these tend to be undrinkable the first
two years in bottle and truly hit their stride 8+ years out.
